Splogs - New Black Hat SEO Blogging?

Posted on Tuesday 4 April 2006

Blog spammers are making a new for themselves recently after a range of new Blogs sites popped up written by and based on the same subject which are employing various underhanded tactics to gain search engine rankings.

Blog spamming reminds me of the old doorway site trick however because the content is written by a number of different users who visit the sites the content is always different and therefore Google doesnt kick the sites out the index. This is similar to the way in which a number of webmaster forums gain traffic. A few of the larger webmaster forums have started adding their own blogs and including members site in their blogrolls, this in turn provides all sites with a number of backlinks improving theirs and the forums rankings for targeted keywords.

In itself adding a few sites to a blogroll is not going to damage the search engine’s SERP’s however it is possible that they will be spammed with so many sites with the same content making the results meaningless.

Could this be the end for blogs…! Another algorithum change is likely on the cards for the search engines which will likely cause outcry from many bloggers who rely on search engine traffic to make money from Google Adsense and Yahoo’s affiliates programs.
